I went to investigate and take photo of Anti-Nuke gathering and march in Tokyo on the last Monday.
The last Monday was national holiday to respect old people.
I was checking it throug Twitter and Ustream on the Monday morning.
I did not expect thouthands of people were gathering already before noon.
I saw one picture indicated that Sendagaya station ( nearest station of meeting point Meiji park ) indicated full of people at the platform.
I arrived at Meiji park at half past three afternoon by bike.
The gathering event and speech was already done. but so many people were there and the march was already started one grouop by one. That was seemed quite organized.
and thouthands of small groups gathered and became huge mass of march.
They were marching towards Yoyogi park through hart of Harajuku area.
They were having so many kinds of flags and placards.
My first impression is that there are more senior demonstrators than than last time in Shinjuku. That reminds me the images quite like student movement in 60 and 70’s.
actuary 60,000 people marched in 9.19. There were so many kind of people from babies to old people.
Actually I have never seen so many ordinary people angry and marched in Tokyo in entire of my life, and I never thought about it either.
I think that Anti-Nuke march was still unusual thing in Japan before the beginning of this May. but that has been becoming huge movement in Japan a day by day.
This may be expressed the changing of way of Japanese thinking.
About the march 9.19, I was wondering one thing why police was not aggressive at all as last time in Shinjuku. I heard about Shinjuku march last time that police arrested a demonstrator who got out from the march and went to buy some to convince shop.
And big gap was exposed between demonstrators and shoppers around Harajuku area.
That was dividing two types of people who still living in before 3.11 and new way of life after it.
